Warm Heart Warm Feet

LH, High Tech Media Arts, D21W

During March, we developed a project called Warm Heart Warm Feet, a sock drive for the homeless. We collected over 40 pairs of socks from various members, and we donated them to a local homeless shelter. During April, we hosted our club elections and welcomed our new board. We have hosted another card-making event, and our excited to start parenting with HTH elementary on a new project.

District Convention

CW, D35E

This year, our district gathered at the Ontario Convention Center for our annual DCON. Marking the end of one term and the beginning of the next, there were three days of joyful celebration and teary goodbyes. The old immediate predecessors exchanged farewells and advice for the newly sworn-in lieutenant governors. Games were played, friendships were made, and everyone danced the night away at the governor's ball. Awards were given, as the old district board recognized the members who had shown exemplary efforts and dedication throughout the entirety of this ‘23 - ‘24 term. All new and old LTG’s were required to attend, and various other members traveled all across the California, Nevada, and Hawaii region to be in attendance.  The new lieutenant governors were not only celebrated, but guided by all the experienced around them, given advice to begin the new term, and cheered on as they start on this new chapter of their lives.

Board Elections

SL, ECHS, D37W

This month, our newly elected officers—John Jumalon, Madisyn Wilcox, Julia Vo, and Rory Carter—officially stepped into their roles! Salvador De Leon was initially elected as our Vice President, but shortly after, he was honored with the position of Lieutenant Governor. As a result, we reopened elections for Vice President, and Jazmine Quintanar was elected to fill the role. Overall, this month has been a meaningful transition period as we shift from our past officers to our new leadership team.

Pancake Breakfast

AT, San Marcos, D37E

During this Month of May, Our Key Club at San Marcos HIgh school participated in an event that helped the St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church and members for setting up and serving a pancake breakfast. The Pancake breakfast fundraiser was an event to provide both an opportunity for the community to connect and for the church to raise funds through admissions tickets. This event occurred over the course of two days, and volunteers from the San Marcos Key Club attended after school on friday and from 7 am to 1 pm on saturday. The fundraiser included setting up tables and preparing plates, and helping decorate the church venue. Volunteers also helped serve refreshments such as orange juice, water, and of course, pancakes. The volunteers from our club were also able to meet the Mayor of San Marcos, Rebecca Jones. Overall, We feel this was a very positive opportunity for both members and community to bond over breakfast and be able to gain community service hours. During the pancake breakfast, we feel it was a good opportunity for our members and upcoming officers to bond and create connections. I feel that there was overall a good amount of participation in this event from our club, and to conclude, was a very accessible and successful volunteering opportunity.

On April 28th, 2024, our seals contributed to our community at “Golden streets” In San Gabriel. Our seals have volunteered at this through assisting in setting up, breaking down, and working at the booths. The first shift went from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the second shift went from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Our volunteers learned how to engage with others, and got to feel as a part of the community. Overall, our seals greatly impacted the success of the “Golden Streets” Event in San Gabriel by dedicatedly volunteering their time and effort in various areas.
